The crumhorn is a Renaissance double reed instrument, but totally unlike any that are in use today. The Crumhorn is a woodwind musical instrument, that was often heard in the music of the early to late renaissance. Today the crumhorn has been made obsolete by the modern clarinet, only to be played by early music consorts. It is widely believed that the crumhorn was the precursor to the clarinet.
